Product Review: Rodial BB Cream

I will admit that until about a month ago, I had never heard of Rodial as a make-up brand. I walked into Space NK in search of perhaps a new moisturiser or cleanser as my skin had been feeling a bit lack-lustre and the sales assistent instead recommended that I start using a BB Cream in between my moisturiser and my foundation as a protective layer. He ranted about how fantastic Rodial were and I left the store with their cleanser (review coming soon - it's amazing) and this little item.

The range comes in three different shades and I was matched up to the lightest - Capri. It looked incredibly pale on my hand when I first saw it, but blends in nicely to the skin once it's warmed up leaving a matte finish and contains absolutely essential SPF 15 protection

It looked and felt lovely in the store, but I was shocked the next day when I tried applying it and it started to crumble and break up on some parts of my skin instead of blending in smoothly! I've realised that this product doesn't like to be applied after a moisturiser and instead prefers to be put straight onto the skin. I have quite dry skin and although gentle, this product doesn't pack a moisture punch, so it's essential that I get my daily moisturiser in there. After a little bit of experimentation (and reading others blogs), I've discovered that I can keep using my greatly needed moisturiser if I apply the product using a damp foundation brush or by prepping my skin beforehand with the Clarins Flash Beauty Balm - I will post a 'Face of the Day' with this combo soon as I often wear it to work.

Application woes aside, the product really looks fantastic after it's been on the skin for about 15 minutes. You can wear it by itself but it really comes into its own if you wear it underneath your foundation because it gives such a airbrushed smoothness and the staying power is incredible. My make-up looks perfect from morning to night. Unlike some BB Creams, because of the matte finish and longevity I think it would work just fine on oily skin types and therefore would recommend it to just about anyone!

If you havn't already tried using a BB cream underneath your foundation - start doing it now! It acts as an amazing base for your make-up and I have found its helped prevent my skin getting as dry when wearing foundation every day.

Have you tried any products from the Rodial range?

  1. Great review! I'm not a fan of BB creams on my skin alone, but agree they work well under foundation :) x

    1. Same.. I don't feel as though a BB Cream is ever enough, but I love the base effect they give and it feels like it's a bit moisturising for my skin as well - BONUS! x

  4. I'm not a BB fan at all, I find they just don't last on my skin. I've heard Rodial is a bit hit and miss with their products!

  5. I've never thought of putting a BB cream under my foundation, the ones I've tried all seem too greasy. This one sounds really nice but I'm guessing it's pricey! x

    1. Yeah some really are greasy (I've heard Maybelline one is?) but this one gives quite a matte effect which is perfect for lasting power! It was about £30 - so definitely not a cheap option, but the No. 7 BB Cream does exactly the same thing or half the price - bargain! Will do a review on it soon x

  9. I tried their snake serum, and I think I liked it....not sure if it actually did anything. But their 5 minute facial is fab! I fancy trying more in the range, but I love my No7 BB cream at the moment. Their dragon's blood range looks interesting! X
