How-to: Vampy Plum Lip || Autumn/Winter Trends

Well, Summer didn't last long this year did it?! Wait.. did Summer happen at all? It's not really important because the great thing is the fantastic Autumn / Winter season is here and with it a whole host of new beauty and fashion trends.
I used to always stay to the exact same make-up products, however now I really embrace the new seasonal trends as a way to mix up my routine, sample new items and be a bit more daring with colours. Certainly one of the trends I have been eyeing up as part of the new season is the dramatic, vampy lip that has been popping up on every catwalk.

Now, I'm not usually a vampy lip girl - infact before this year the closest I came to something vampy on my lips was a dark pink which was more girl-next-door than Buffy the Vampire Slayer. This little how-to will show you how to make a lasting lip colour that won't smear on your lips.

First prep the lips by applying a lip liner. With a lip this dark it's important to have a strong base otherwise the lipstick will smear everywhere. I'm using Revlon's ColorStay Lip Liner in Plum, which matches really well to the lipstick and I applied it all over the lip and upto the edges.

 After that, I used Topshop Beguilded on top of the lip liner, being careful to keep within the lines.

With a lip this dark, you need to keep the rest of your make-up very simple, so no bronzer allowed! I simply had my Rodial BB Cream, my Rimmel Foundation and the slightest bit No. 7 Blush in Honey. Don't wear too pink a blush or the colour will clash and you can look a bit clown like with such intense lips. Eye make-up is simple - just enough to define the eyes and give a bit of contour.

If you're looking for an easier, more wearable version of this, then I'd recommend Revlon's Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Crush. I'll probably do a post on it if anyone's interested.

Seonaid over at Beauty and Baggage writes a really similar tutorial on how to apply a Berry Lip here - I'd really recommend taking a look. More Autumn/Winter Beauty Trend posts coming soon - what beauty trends are you trying out? Have you tried a dark vampy lip?

  8. You look so lovely with plum-y lips! I have the Revlon Balm Stain in crush and its so fab, basically no lip liner needed since it stains/has a more precise tip!
